Law Enforcement & Security Trainers, Inc. HISTORYLaw Enforcement & Security Trainers, Inc. was incorporated in 1994 by Larry E. Lein and his son, Christopher, who is currently a police officer with Kansas City, MO, Police Department. Larry had been a Use of Force Instructor for 21 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) prior to his retirement in 1994. He had taught police officers and FBI agents in Defensive Tactics (DT) for those 21 years. When teaching DT courses for the Bureau, he was required to teach the FBI program. He determined, from the questions and comments he received from many small department officers, that the program was not addressing the specific needs of these rural and small town law enforcement officials who have to work alone. Because of this need, that was not being addressed by current training, Larry and his son, taking their combined law enforcement and competitive judo experience, decided to provide simple and effective tactical hands on training. It is imperative that these officers have training in a control technique which is easy to learn, easy to remember, and easy to use and at the same time be effective. Our observation was that traditional law enforcement training for control was too complex to adequately address this problem. Thus, the Chris Lein Arm Management Program (CLAMP) was developed. We spent five (5) years developing the course prior to teaching it the first time. In 1996, in response to requests from several agencies, we developed the Ground Reaction And Self Protection (GRASP) course for law enforcement. Whereas the CLAMP is a control course, the GRASP is a self protection course for officers that may be taken to the ground. We say the first rule for ground fighting is: THERE ARE NO RULES! We currently have taught instructors from 18 states, Canada, the UK, Australia, and Scotland. We have taught local, county, state, and federal (both civilian and military) agency personnel. |
