Advanced Instructor Certification Course

GRASP SELF DEFENSE COURSE IS:

A ground defense course for police officers should not be designed to prepare an officer to plan to stay on the ground in a competitive mode with a subject. The objective of a law enforcement ground defense course should be to have the officer get to his feet or gain control of the subject quickly. The GRASP course emphasizes four primary tools to assist the officer in defending him/herself. They are:

	Bent Arm Lock
	Straight Arm Lock
	Escapes
	Strangles (not the same as a neck restraint)

The premise behind the philosophy for most of the teaching of the GRASP course is that the officer is at a disadvantage and can not disengage.

LEST, Inc., starting in 2007, will be offering a Basic GRASP Instructor Certification and a Master GRASP Instructor Certification.
Both courses will be able to be taken in a 40 hour block, 3days Basic and 2 days Master.

What does the GRASP course provide an officer?

	Advanced instructors receive 24 hours of Missouri POST approved training
	Officers will receive an overview of medical and legal implications
	Instruction in course development, presentation, and tactical skills
	Both a written and practical skills test are conducted at the conclusion of the course
	Certification valid for 3 years, instructor manual, instructor T-shirt

APPLICATIONS SKILLS:

	Falling techniques
	Defensive movement on ground
	Use of the baton from the ground
	How to get to your feet quickly
	Defense against a tackle
	Controlling subject's punching distance from the guard position
	Taking a standing subject to the ground when officer is on ground
	Situational use of skills learned on the street
	Knife defense on the ground
